Is climate change a real threat to humanity?

Climate Change is no more a problem for the least developed and developing countries only. It is now a big problem for the whole of humanity. If we want to preserve humanity on Earth, it must be viewed from the global citizen lens. Yes! there are differences in culture, religion, language, and nations but we should understand that none of these notions are bigger than the earth itself. There are denials of climate change. So, let’s acknowledge them, first. Let's forget about climate change and think. Are there answers with climate denial theorists, for questions like- why there are more deaths due to heatwaves in recent decades? Why the frequency of extreme weather events has been increasing?  What are the answers to the families whose members died in the recent heatwave in the Quebec City of Canada? who can give the explanation to the families of the Farmer committing suicide due to drought in India? How will we face the victims of recent disasters due to the cyclone in small island countries in the Pacific? And, Is the crisis in petroleum-rich countries only due to extremist activities? Do denial theorists have justifiable answers for these questions. I guess not.

The above questions were raised in very different parts of the globe but if we look deep into these questions, they have only one major root cause - our attitude to deal with problems in one dimension. We never tried to see the flip side of the coin and kept ourselves busy enjoying the advancement of the modern industrial revolutions. We never thought about where the food came from? We never thought our climatic pattern would change so rapidly. We never thought the polluted air in the next city would reach our doors so soon. In one of the surveys on biodiversity conducted in 2000 in the UK, most of the respondents did not know about biodiversity, and even more, some told – about biodiversity as a name of detergent, some told about clothing brands,s and so on. This is a typical example of our ignorance about the most pressing issues of the time. Thanks to the internet and social media awareness, People would not react to “Climate Change” in the same way as biodiversity. But we are continuing to put our deaf ear to its solution and searching for the best alternative mitigation measures only. So, how to deal with the issue then?

Let's look back and try to understand the discourse on the climate crisis before thinking about the potential solution. Climate change has been put forward by the scientific community and communicated widely that it started with an increase in the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere in the 1950s. Most popularly known as “the hockey stick effect”. Is it? I have a doubt. That is science only. The climate crisis is rooted in the market system that empowered people to increase their personal wealth at the immense cost of natural resource depletion.  It is rooted in the system that helped people to rule over people with their materialistic goods. All these have started long before the 1950s. It is intensified with the capitalist economic measurement system developed and flourished from the 1960s. So, the climate crisis is the crisis, people showed centuries ago and the consequences are now being visible with the aid of scientific discoveries and the current market system. We need to have a retrospective lens to see all these things and act ourselves as a guardian of mother earth and stop creating deep holes in land, water, and atmosphere.

If we really want to help preserve our mother earth from the current climate crisis, we need to start looking at things in totality. This issue should not be treated in an isolated way. We need to change the cultural upbringing that taught us- If you are into science, business and humanities are not your subjects. This cultural upbringing made us think about everything in an isolated way. We are still expecting science will do some magic inventions and solve climate change. But, climate change, seems beyond the scope the science or business only. We need to understand science, business, and humanities as a single subject to solve this magnanimous problem for humankind. In gist, climate change should be thought of in totality with unity among the nations on the earth rather than dealing with it is as a single problem and searching for straightforward solutions, which has been our habit and always like to do.

This is my view. It's now the reader, please decide whether climate change is a real threat to humanity or not! but let's do it fast. we have very limited time left and there are many amendments to make to preserve humanity on this earth.
